This page explains how HelpForMan researches, writes, and updates every guide. We keep it honest and short on purpose.

Our purpose

HelpForMan provides practical, general education — not medical, legal, financial, or psychological advice. Every guide is designed to help you understand a situation and take a sensible first step, not to replace a qualified professional.

How we choose topics

  • We research what men are actually searching for — real situations, not theoretical scenarios.
  • We identify gaps where the available guidance is vague, preachy, or missing entirely.
  • We prioritise articles that give someone a clear, actionable answer they can use today.

How we write guides

Every HelpForMan guide follows the same honest format:

  1. The situation — what is actually happening and why it matters.
  2. What to do first — the most important immediate step.
  3. What not to do — common mistakes and why they make things worse.
  4. The steps — a clear, numbered sequence you can follow.
  5. An example message or script — real words you can adapt and use.
  6. A checklist — a quick reference before you act.

We do not pad articles to hit a word count. We stop when we have said what needs to be said.

How we select sources

  • We cite official, reputable, and primary sources only — government agencies, established charities, peer-reviewed research, and recognised professional bodies.
  • We do not fabricate citations or use low-quality sources to fill space.
  • For money and legal topics, we note that rules vary by jurisdiction and link to relevant official sources for the UK, US, and Australia where applicable.

How we handle YMYL content

Topics involving money, health, mental wellbeing, safety, legal rights, and addiction recovery are treated with extra care. On these pages we:

  • Link to authoritative official sources.
  • Include a clear educational disclaimer.
  • Link to verified professional support resources (see our Support Helplines page).
  • Mark the guide as YMYL so the trust block is always shown.

We do not assign fictional reviewer credentials. We do not claim professional advice we are not qualified to give.

How we keep content current

  • Evergreen guides are reviewed periodically and updated when substantive changes are needed.
  • The Updated date shown in the article trust block reflects the date of the most recent meaningful update, not a cosmetic refresh.
  • Time-sensitive content (regulations, rates, prices) is flagged for priority review.

Affiliate disclosure

Some pages contain affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you buy through them — at no extra cost to you. This never influences our editorial recommendations. We only suggest resources we would recommend regardless.
