Start with a box, not a shopping spree
Get one sturdy toolbox or a zip storage bag and build into it over time. See basic tools every man should own for the core list — hammer, drill, screwdrivers, tape measure, pliers, utility knife.
Add the consumables drawer
- A small parts organiser for screws, nails, and wall plugs in assorted sizes.
- Tapes: duct, electrical, masking.
- Super glue, WD-40, and a multi-purpose sealant.
- Spare batteries and a few light bulbs.
Keep it findable
- Store it somewhere central — a cupboard by the door, not the back of the loft.
- Return each tool after use so the kit stays complete.
- Keep a small “grab bag” with the three you reach for most: screwdriver, tape, torch.
